Tutor Charlotte is a community initiative to help connect volunteers with effective tutoring organizations in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.
It’s a collaborative effort by Augustine Literacy Project – Charlotte, the Charlotte Executive Leadership Council, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Heart Math Tutoring, Helps Education Fund, and Read Charlotte to meet a community need for tutors, and to provide successful, rewarding experiences for both students and volunteers.

Helps Education Fund
Helps Education Fund volunteer tutors support students in advancing their reading fluency and comprehension skills while increasing their confidence. Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with students implementing the HELPS curriculum using a series of well-structured, pre-planned 30-minute virtual tutoring sessions. Sessions are moderated by a well-trained Virtual Implementation Coordinator, who coaches and supports tutors and creates a warm and welcoming virtual learning space for all.
Virtual tutoring
Time commitment: 1 hour per week, during school or after-school hours; one 3.5-hour training session
Volunteers accepted throughout the school year
No teaching or tutoring experience required (training is provided)

Augustine Literacy Project
ALP will train you to be a Literacy Interventionist no matter your professional background. Our reading system, coupled with your commitment of two hours a week with a child, has proven to transform an at-risk student into a confident and proficient reader. Flexible training sessions are available and include a hands-on practicum to build your confidence. Volunteers are needed virtually and in-person.
In-person and virtual options
Time commitment: Two hours per week, during school hours, for a total of 60 tutoring sessions; flexible training sessions available

No teaching or tutoring experience required (training is provided)

Heart Math Tutoring
Heart Math Tutoring gives students successful experiences in math through one-on-one, volunteer-delivered tutoring, aiming to ensure that all elementary students develop a strong foundation in math. The program uses a scripted, game-based curriculum, and has an on-site coordinator providing support at all times.

Time commitment: 1 hour per week, during school hours; two 1-hour training sessions
Volunteers accepted throughout the school year
No teaching or tutoring experience required (training is provided)
