What is the volunteer commitment?

What is the volunteer commitment?

Tutor Charlotte volunteers must complete the CMS volunteer application and background check, and be cleared to volunteer. They must attend a 90-minute active reading training, as well as orientation at their school assignment. They must commit to an ongoing weekly commitment to be paired 1-1 with a child for approximately 45 minutes in total each week.

  • 15 minutes – office sign in, select books and materials and roll call in the classroom

  • 30 minutes – Active Reading with student

What if I need to a miss a weekly session?

What if I need to a miss a weekly session?

If you are unable to attend a session, you should reach out to your Classroom Coordinator in advance of your reading day/time to let him/her know. The Classroom Coordinator will pair your student with another Reading Mentor for that day. Likewise, if your student is not in attendance, you will be paired with another student for that day.

Are there particular times to volunteer?

Are there particular times to volunteer?

Yes, each school and teacher will determine the best time for the intervention for the year. It will either be around the volunteer lunch hour or first thing in the morning.
